Twitter Company News

This monthly email with updates from Twitter headquarters took
the summer off but we're starting it back up. A lot has happened
over the past few months and there's much more in store. We want
you to know what's happening at our company and what's been
updated with our service. If you haven't been by in a while, be
sure to sign in at Twitter.com and find out what everyone's
doing. Visit http://twitter.com

Water, Water--Everywhere?

If you use Twitter and you were born in September, then we want
to wish you a happy birthday--and tell you about a special
initiative from Twitter-er Scott Harrison. Scott turns 33 this
month and he already has everything he could want. Instead of
gifts, Scott hopes to bring clean drinking water to those without
it. If you're up for it, check out Scott's web site and help him
reach his goal of digging 333 water wells across Ethopia--this
month. Visit http://www.charitywater.org/

Looking for Something? Search Us

We launched Twitter Search on the same day that we announced our
acquisition of Summize, an extraordinary search tool and amazing
group of engineers. Search is a great way of finding out what
people are talking about right now. The fun thing about Twitter
Search is that it updates live while you are on a results page.
If you search for "twitter" and new results come in while you're
on the page, we'll let you know. It's like searching the web and
getting results on their way in—get 'em while they're hot,
visit http://search.twitter.com.

Reliability Update

Twitter has been making great progress in terms of uptime and
reliability. Fail Whale sightings are far less frequent these
days thanks to our efforts but we still have a long journey
ahead. Last month we saw 99.88% uptime and so far this month we
are at 99.96%. Our engineering and operations teams have been
taking a very methodical approach to improving Twitter. We're
using the word "craftsmanship" to characterize our work here at
the office. Reliability and dependability continue to be top on
or list of key goals.

API Improvements

Developers who build interesting new ways to interact with
Twitter are an important part of our success. Until recently,
our API was supported by one engineer in his spare time. That
engineer is Alex Payne and he's our new API Lead. Alex is joined
by Matt Sanford and together they will focus 100% of their
efforts on the Twitter API. New features are already being added
and we'll be able to respond faster to the developer community
too. Visit http://apiwiki.twitter.com/ for more info.

Our New Office

This summer, Twitter moved it's official world headquarters. We
only moved a few blocks away so we're still in the SoMa
neighborhood in San Francisco, but what a difference. The new
space is big, sunny, and open. We have lots of room for company
meetings, visiting guest speakers, and even a place where the
whole company can watch a movie on Friday nights. We're now a
team of 24 full time employees and some contractors so movie
night usually draws a good crowd.

Happy Twittering,
Biz Stone and the Twitter Team
